Biography/History: Artist also known as 十時梅厓
Biography/History: Attribution only. As the signature of this painting is questionable and the subject matter unusual for painters of the bunjin style, we can only attribute the work to Totoki Baigai (1749-1804). Buddhist iconography was not part of the normal repertoire of Japanese literati artists.
Acquisition: Addiss-Seo Nanga Collection. On long-term loan to the Ruth and Sherman Lee Institute for Japanese Art.
Funding: Digitization funded by an Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Leadership Grant (LG 30-02-0260-02) awarded to the University of California, Merced Library.
