Description
Photograph of the Los Angeles International Airport control tower, in May 1961. At center, the tower is 172 feet in height, dominating the entrance to new terminal area near Century and Sepulveda Boulevards. "Office space for airport administration and other executive branches is provided in lower floors of the tower structure and also in the wings on either side. Federal Aviation Agency personnel and radar-electronic equipment will occupy space from the 7th floor up, with air traffic controller staff on 24-hour duty in the control cab" reads the photoprint. In front of the lower part of the building stands a line of flags on tall poles. Two people make their way to the building at center. In the foreground to the left stands a palm tree, with a sprinkling of plant life to its right.
