Description
The first litchi tree to be introduced into California is said to have come from Florida and was planted by Mr. E. W. Hadley in Santa Barbara about 1897 [J. E. Higgins, The Litchi in Hawaii (1917), p. 5.].

In the 1900 census, hHadley's address is listed as 637 East Sola St. In 1911, the Santa Barbara city directory lists Hadley's address in the same location, as Sola at the corner of Quarantina (this section of the street was renamed Alta Vista Rd.).
