Photograph caption dated December 15, 1958 reads, "M/Sgt. James D. Nichols, right, of Reseda, accepts Airman of Year award from Robert Hale, center, president of Van Nuys Chamber of Commerce. Maj. Gen Earle M. Jones, left, watches. More than $1,500 was raised by Valley National Guard yesterday from their annual Christmas show. Proceeds will go to muscular dystrophy ward of Childrens [sic] Hospital. Money, which would normally be spent in card exchange, is donted [sic] to major charity each year."
