Description
Photograph caption dated June 18, 1958 reads "Capt. Mickey Jones (not visible) centers on runway at Palmdale Airport after 45 minute flight over Mojave Desert. Speedy plane used big chunk of runway because drag chute was not deployed to help brake plane. Air Force test pilot had another mission to fly and decided to save his tail chute. Jones flies some 50 such missions each month."
