Collections in Calisphere
All of the items in Calisphere are organized into collections. Collections bring context to images, documents, videos, and audio recordings. Some collections represent a particular topic or format, some have items created by the same person, and some showcase an institution’s special project or initiative. Use the tabs below to explore the hundreds of collections in Calisphere.
Curious about where these collections come from and how they’re described? Daily POP Model Output over the Equatorial Indian Ocean
This collection includes a spatial subset (10ºS-3ºN, 45ºE-90ºE) of forced coupled ocean/sea ice simulations using CICE4 and the global Los Alamos National Laboratory Parallel Ocean Program Model 2 (POP), run in the Community Earth System Model (CESM) framework. The output includes daily temperature, density, velocity, and wind stress from 2005-2009, at 42 depth levels, with a vertical resolution that varies from 10 m at the surface to 250 m at depth, and a nominal horizontal resolution of 0.1º. For more information on the setup, processing, and analysis, please refer to Arzeno-Soltero et al. 2021 (DOI to be determined later).

Dance Heritage Video Archive
With generous support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the USC Libraries and the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance created the Dance History Video Archive (DHVA) collection. The collection preserves culturally significant recordings that document global and U.S. dance traditions, creative work by outstanding choreographers and performers, and performances that helped to advance the art form. The DHVA collection continues the work begun by the Dance Heritage Coalition’s Dance Preservation and Digitization Project to address the challenges faced by dance artists, choreographers, performers, and companies in preserving a record of their work and helping to share it as broadly …

Data and Code from: Measuring Turbulent Dissipation with Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters in the Presence of Large, Intermittent, Infragravity Frequency Bores
This object contains data collected from Los Peñasquitos Lagoon in Southern California as well as code to process that data according to the paper “Measuring Turbulent Dissipation with Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters in the Presence of Large, Intermittent, Infragravity Frequency Bores.” It is meant to provide reference for those looking to reproduce or build upon the methods presented in that paper. The data is primarily 16 Hz velocity measurements obtained from 3 Nortek Vectors (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters). Two synced Nortek Vectors were mounted, along with other instruments, on a sawhorse frame that was secured with sand anchors into the bed at …

Data from: A Broadband View of the Sea Surface Height Wavenumber Spectrum
Airborne lidar altimetry can measure the sea surface height (SSH) over scales ranging from hundreds of kilometers to a few meters. This collection has SSH observations taken during an airborne lidar campaign conducted in the spring of 2019 off the California coast in support of the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission. The collection consists of NetCDF files with all data necessary to reproduce the figures in Villas Bôas et al. (2022), which were based on flights from March 28, 2019, and April 9, 2019. The data can be used in conjunction with code available in the following GitHub …

Data from: A Glimpse through Time and Space: Visualizing Spatial Continuity and History-making at Çatalhöyük, Turkey
This collection is an updated version of a previous collection made available in 2018 (https://doi.org/10.6075/J0SX6BDP). It is part of the revisions required in the peer-review process of the related journal article. This new peer-reviewed collection includes a set of revised 3-D models of the Shrine 10 sequence of building at the Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük, Turkey, derived 3-D renders, an executable Win64 desktop app that interactively reconstruct the case study, a set of Unity 3D game engine asset packages ready to import in a new project as users see fit, and the Unity 3D game engine project, including the app …

Data from: A Living Vector Field Reveals Constraints on Galactose Network Induction in Yeast
Abstract: When a cell encounters a new environment, its transcriptional response can be constrained by its history. For example, yeast cells in galactose induce GAL genes with a speed and unanimity that depends on previous nutrient conditions. Cellular memory of long-term glucose exposure delays GAL induction and makes it highly variable with in a cell population, while other nutrient histories lead to rapid, uniform responses. To investigate how cell-level gene expression dynamics produce population-level phenotypes, we collected thousands of microscopy images of fields of cells as they switched to galactose from various nutrient histories, extracted time series of thousands of …
